Democratic Committee Nominates Three Incumbents for Tarrytown Trustee

Thomas Basher, Robert Hoyt and Mary McGee will compete for their seats in the Tarrytown Board of Trustees elections on March 20.

The no-nonsense meeting in the Tarrytown courtroom was over in a matter of minutes. A small group of registered village Democrats including the Mayor nominated the three trustees whose seats are up – Deputy Mayor Thomas Basher, Robert Hoyt, and Mary McGee – to run again in the March elections.

There were no surprises, no objections, and no other candidates thrown into the mix on Thursday night. But who joins the competition at Monday's Republican caucus remains to be seen.

Once the candidates got the official nod of approval, each gave a few quick rallying words.

Basher: "I think that in the last six years, this village has moved forward in a manner unmatched in the previous 20."

McGee: "I hope to continue to work for the people of people of Tarrytown."

Hoyt: "We've done a lot and come a long way. This is truly the jewel of the Hudson Valley and I plan to keep it that way."

Then it was onto signing the necessary paperwork and handing out petitions. Volunteers will collect the 100 signatures from resident Democrats, Republicans, and Indepedents required for the Tarrytown United party to achieve its place on the ballot endorsing these candidates.

While these trustees were nominated by the Democratic party, they are actually a mixture of two Democrats (McGee, Basher) and one Republican (Hoyt).

There is a special authorization certificate that got signed, and notarized, along with all the other nominating documents, that allows a non-Democrat to be included in the Democratic endorsements, explained committee chair Linda Viertel. Last year, trustees Becky McGovern and Doug Zollo, who are both Independents, went through the same process.

The Republican Nominating Caucus will be held Monday, January 30, 2012, starting at 7:30 p.m. at Tarrytown Village Hall in the Court Room. All registered Republicans residing in Tarrytown may attend and vote in this caucus, which will also nominate three candidates for Trustee in the March 20th Village election.

It's supposed to look like business as usual but Tarrytown is getting deeper and deeper in debt with its uncontrolable spending with no plan in mind. Also, their confined space program and training is a joke, the men are entering spaces with no equipment and they don't even know how to fill out the permits. This board is "suppposed" to protect them, but they aren't. Their time has come and they need to be voted out and replaced with people who care.
