The market officially opened at 8:30 a.m. on Saturday.

The smell of fruit, flowering plants and fresh bread filled the air in Patriots Park Saturday.

The 2011 Tarrytown Farmers Market officially opened with a ribbon cutting and plenty of produce and goods to partake of.

"It's exciting. We have more community involvement this year," said Danielle Fontaine, a Sleepy Hollow resident and Office Manager for Community Markets.

A new committee is overseeing the market, which is organizing live music and other events to take place every Saturday. Crafts are also being provided by the Arts Council of Tarrytown and Sleepy Hollow.

"I like that it is becoming more of a community event," Fontaine said. "Historically, Tarrytown was a market town. Now we're back to supporting farmers and sustainable agriculture practices."
