Here's a look at some of the cases that came before the Village Court during its March 10, 2010 session.
90 Days for Cocaine Possession
Christopher Wrobel was sentenced to 90 days in county jail for the Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance in the seventh degree. Wrobel plead guilty to a reduced Class A misdemeanor pertaining to a July 30, 2009 arrest on Sheldon Ave. for possessing a bag of cocaine. Wrobel will also have to pay a $205 surcharge. He was led away from the court room by police to begin his sentence.
Alexander Acts as His Own Attorney
Cristin Alexander plead guilty to disorderly conduct in the Village of Tarrytown on Wednesday. He was charged under section 240.40 of the New York State Penal Code – the appearance in public under the influence of narcotics. Alexander told the judge he was ready to serve his time immediately.
"I'll plead guilty right now if the time is reasonable," he said. "I have other matters that are more serious."
Alexander also has open cases in White Plains and Ossining. He was seeking four to five days in jail.
"The court is prepared to give you eight days, and bail will be exonerated," Village Justice Kyle McGovern said.
After Alexander's offer to "clean up Tarrytown" instead of serving time was denied, he accepted the eight-day sentence.
Driver Who Collided with Bus Referred for Treatment
Patricio Galarza made his first court appearance after he collided with a Tappan ZEExpress Bus at 7:40 a.m. on March 3. Galarza, sustained non-life threatening head injuries in the crash; he was later found to be intoxicated and was operating a vehicle without a license. Galarza was apparently also operating a cell phone at the time of the crash. Galarza was referred to Treatment Alternatives for Safe Communities (TASC) for his DWI offense and will return to Village Court at a later date.
Lupercio Gets Fined
Nelson Lupercio accepted a $200 fine and a $125 surcharge pertaining to a harassment and disorderly conduct incident with his wife. The court also gave a two-year order of protection to Lupercio's wife, with no stay-away provisions.
Other Cases
Sidney Curry failed to appear in court on a Disorderly Conduct charge. Curry's failure to appear resulted in the issuance of an arrest warrant.
Maria Negron will appear in court next week for sentencing pertaining to a harassment charge involving her cousin.
Scott Fitzgerald is due back in court at the end of the month for an ongoing case involving a DWI charge. Fitzgerald has been going through the court system since 2009. He has been complying with Treatment Alternatives for Safe Communities (TASC) courses.
A bench warrant was issued for New Jersey resident Sam Carter who failed to appear in court.
