Inside the Tarrytown Courthouse: Fugitive Caught on Village Code Violation, Jail for Shoplifter

A glimpse inside the headquarters of justice in Tarrytown

Here's a look at some of the cases that came before theVillage Court during its July 7, 2010 session.

Man Caught with Marijuana to go to County Supreme Court

Valentine A. Barrett, who was caught with 70 pounds of marijuana in his car in May, was in court again on Wednesday. However, it will likely be his last appearance in Tarrytown for some time – the matter is being handed over to the Westchester County Supreme Court.

Village Justice Kyle McGovern noted that Barrett had been in compliance with the Treatment Alternatives for Safe Communities (TASC) program, and that he didn't need any treatment for drug related problems despite his involvement in possessing large amounts of marijuana.

After Barrett finishes his case in Supreme Court he will arrive back in Tarrytown to formerly close the local case. He is scheduled back in Village Court on September 29.

Mosa Has Multiple Cases to Handle

Tarrytown resident Shady Mosa was in court relating to an unspecified felony charge. Mosa already has two pending matters in Greenburgh and Dobbs Ferry.

Mosa has bail set at $5,000 in Greenburgh and $1,000 in Dobbs Ferry, his attorney asked the Tarrytown court to release Mosa on his own recognizance stating that the other two bail amounts were sufficient to ensure that Mosa would turn up to his next court date. McGovern agreed, but also assigned Mosa to TASC.

Mosa has previously been arrested in Tarrytown, on March 4, when members of the Greenburgh Drug and Alcohol Task Force executed a raid near Cortlandt Street and Wildey Street. At the time Mosa had two bags of cocaine and one bag of marijuana on his person.

Justice Kyle McGovern noted that if Mosa was arrested again, for anything, he would be remanded to jail while his court cases continue.

He will be back in Tarrytown court on July 21.

Olszewski Gets Prison Sentence

Mark Olszewski received a 30 day sentence in the county jail for a petit larceny conviction.

On Wednesday, Olszewski admitted that on April 24 he stole property from the C-Town Supermarket. The crime was a misdemeanor.

He has already served some time and according to the Westchester Department of Corrections, he will be released on July 25.

Village Code Arrest Nets Fugitive

Timothy Camper was arrested in Tarrytown last week on a village code violation for entering a closed park property. However, when police ran his details, they realized he was a fugitive from justice.

Camper is wanted in County Supreme Court for an unspecified crime and is being held in jail to face that crime.

In Tarrytown court, Camper became aggravated and asked when he would get an attorney and when his case would be heard. McGovern noted that he would get an attorney in county court, and that the Tarrytown court was reliving itself of the matter.

"You're going to Superior Court, you're done here," McGovern said. "I no longer have jurisdiction over you."

Other Cases

Editor's note: Samantha Bertolozzi was later exhonorated and found not guilty of this offense, while Mansa was sentenced to a period of incarceration.

Eric Mansa of Tarrytown and Samantha Bertolozzi of Milbrook were not in court on Wednesday. The two are accused of attempting to obtain Oxycodone with a forged prescription note from CVS on N Broadway.

The Assistant District Attorney noted that both of the defendants had enrolled in a residential rehabilitation program. They will both be back in court on August 4.

Tarrytown Criminal Court is in session every Wednesday beginning at 9:00 a.m.
