Those seeking to challenge incumbent trustees in both Tarrytown and Sleepy Hollow have until next Tuesday to file for election.
So far, there have been no candidates stepping forward to challenge the six positions (three in each village) that are being put to the vote in the March 16 local election.
The deadline for party nominations have passed, but candidates can still file as independents providing they supply a petition to the clerk of their respective village. Nomination petitions for independent candidates require the signatures of at least 100 registered voters within the municipality.
In Sleepy Hollow, Tom Capossela, David Schroedel and Karin Wompa all earned the backing of the Sleepy Hollow Democratic Party during their caucus at the Fraternal Order of Eagles two weeks ago.
Tom Basher, Bobby Hoyt and Mary McGee have all refiled for their trustee positions in Tarrytown and remain unified as members of the Tarrytown United Party.
The Tarrytown Village Clerk, Carol Booth, said elections would be held even if candidates had no formal opposition because of the possibility for write-in votes.
The clerks of both villages will accept nomination petitions until 5 p.m. on Tuesday, February 9.
