Lofaro's Life of Service to the Community

John F. Lofaro, a GM retiree, crossing guard, life active member of Riverside Hose, and longtime resident of Sleepy Hollow, dies at 65.

John F. Lofaro, a longtime resident of Sleepy Hollow died October 18, 2012 at the age of 65. Born in Scilla, Italy on November 8, 1946, he was the son of Frank and Filomena Tropeano Lofaro.  On August 4, 1968, he married Santa Pirrotta in Scilla, Italy.

John had retired from General Motors after many years of service. In his retirement, he was the school crossing guard at Depeyster St. and Broadway. John was a parishioner of Immaculate Conception Church. He was a life active member of Riverside Hose of the Tarrytown Fire Department where he served as vice president of the company and he was a member of the Gariddi Italian Club of Port Chester.

John is survived by Santa, his wife of 44 years as well as his sons Frank (Silvana) of Sydney, Australia and John (Laura) of Irvington. He was a loving grandfather to Simone, Elizabeth, Thomas, Sage, Gregory and Calvin. John is also survived by his brothers Ralph (Nadia) and Frank (Lori); his sisters Elizabeth (Pasquale) Pirrotta, Anna (Doug) Nasto and Antoinette (Frank) Bellantoni and his brother–in-law Onofrio (Pina) Pirrotta.

Visitation will be at Coffey Funeral Home on Saturday and Sunday from 5-9 PM. His Funeral Mass will be at Immaculate Conception Church on Monday at 10:00 with entombment to follow in Sleepy Hollow Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations to the American Cancer Society or Immaculate Conception Church would be appreciated.
