Police Beat - Sleepy Hollow: Burglar Scared Off, Air Gun and Knife Found in Douglas Park

A summary of incidents in Sleepy Hollow from Nov. 1 to Nov. 7, 2010.

 

The Sleepy Hollow Police Department reported the following incidents:

Nov. 7

5:24 p.m. A caller stated that eggs were thrown against the side of her Riverside Drive residence two days previously. The caller said she only wanted the incident noted for the record. 

3:44 a.m. A caller reported a problem at a Cortlandt Street apartment. Police arrived and found a domestic incident in progress between a married couple. No arrests were made and the husband reportedly did not want to file charges. The wife said she wanted to stay with a friend and had resolved to move out of the apartment. They were advised to take matters up at family court.

Nov. 6

10:11 p.m. A Honda sedan struck a Philipsburg Manor fence after the driver swerved the car off the road. The car was impounded and the driver, an 18-year-old Sleepy Hollow resident, was cited for driving with only a permit.

9:21 a.m. A driver called police to complain about a delivery truck that was blocking Hudson Street. The man said he couldn't reverse direction because the road was too narrow. Police arrived and realized that the truck was attempting to turn around as well. Officers aided the motorists and corrected the situation.

Nov. 5

10:07 p.m. A 100 College Avenue resident called police to report that there were a number of youths hanging around outside the building. Police sent the group on their way.

3:17 p.m. After an investigation, Sleepy Hollow police arrested a local man for possession of narcotics. The 23-year-old was in court this week.

12:43 p.m. A Bellwood Avenue resident reported a suspicious male in the area of Farrington and Munroe Avenues. The caller reported she observed the man going door to door and looking into homes. The man was contacted by police and said he was a resident of the area, but had no ID to prove it. He was taken to headquarters for further followup and was found to be a resident of Depeyster Street. He was released without charges. 

Nov. 4

12:38 p.m. A caller reported three suspicious males entering Douglas Park with what seemed to be a rifle case. The caller also noted that the car they arrived in, a Toyota Camry, was parked on the wrong side of New Broadway. Police entered the park and found the three individuals, all in their early 20s and residents of Sleepy Hollow. The individuals had an air rifle, a hunting knife and a spotting scope in their possession. The items were temporarily confiscated and the three men were taken to Sleepy Hollow headquarters for questioning. 

Nov. 3

6:59 p.m. A girl came in to police headquarters to report that her little brother was beat up in the hallway of the middle school by four females.  The incident occurred after school hours, when the girls allegedly chased the boy through the halls. The complainant said they had trouble with two of the girls who live in the same building as the victim. Parents of the kids reportedly discussed and resolved the issue. The matter was reported to the principle and the Tarrytown youth officer. 

Nov. 1

11:56 p.m. A caller on North Washington Street said that he believed someone had fallen off of his back deck. Officer were sent and found that someone had tried to gain entry to the North Washington home through a glass sliding door, awakening the resident. The suspect fled the scene and could not be located. 

2:49 p.m. A school bus driver called to report that as she attempted to make a right turn on to Cortlandt Street from Wildey Street, and that she was unable to fit the bus past a truck owned by Stiloski's Automotive. According to the driver, a Stiloski's employee told her she could fit the bus, but as she attempted the turn she struck a fire hydrant, damaging the bus. A report on the matter was filed, and notice was sent to the Tarrytown Police Department because the damaged hydrant was in Tarrytown's jurisdiction. 

11:26 a.m. A van swerved off the road on Route 9 near the intersection with Farrington Avenue. The full story is here.
