Police Beat - Sleepy Hollow: Caucus Timeline, Dirt Bike Chase from Ossining Ends Here
A summary of incidents in Sleepy Hollow from January 26 to February 3, 2012
The Sleepy Hollow Police Department reported the following incidents.
Jan. 26
Trevor Kinsey, a 21-year-old Sleepy Hollow resident, turned himself into Peekskill police headquarters for an assault that occurred on Jan. 15 at 11:30 p.m. on N. Division Street in Peekskill. The victim, an acquaintance of Kinsey, was assaulted after he threw a handful of loose change at Kinsey’s vehicle. The victim sustained a broken nose, and fractured eye socket. Kinsey was charged with second degree assault, a Class D felony, and was held for arraignment in Peekskill City Court without bail.
Jan. 28
11:51 a.m. Caller reported a tree down across all four lanes of traffic on North Broadway. Department of Public Works, Bee-Line Bus, Phelps Memorial Hospital, the Mayor and Police Chief were all notified. Mt. Pleasant Police Department was contacted for assistance in closing the southbound land and sending all traffic down Route 117. Hot line on the road conditions was made. At 12:28 p.m the road was reopened.
4:10 p.m. Caller requested police for a problem with the Democratic Caucus going on at the Senior Center. Two officers were sent, with two more sent subsequently. Officers reported a dispute between Village Attorney Janet Gandolfo and would-be nominee Donald Caetano over the attendance sheet for the caucus. Gandolfo ultimately retained possessions of sheet. At 4:25 p.m., former Democratic Party Chair Frank Occhipinti reported that there was no problem at the senior center. At 4:40, Occhipinti gave the sergeant a list of people at the meeting. At 4:45 p.m., the center was reportedly cleared.
5:16 p.m. Ossining PD reported they had an officer out at North Broadway and Route 117 with a party that they had pursued from Ossining on a dirt bike. Sleepy Hollow PD were sent to assist. Ossining PD arrested the rider. Mt. Pleasant police were also notified because the dirt bike had crashed at that location.
Jan. 31
8:04 p.m. Caller reported a tall male possibly white wearing black pants, blue shirt and dark backpack was walking in the northbound lane of traffic on North Broadway and was almost struck by a car. Officer located male at North Broadway and Hemlock, who was attempting to walk to Ossining. Officer gave him money for a bus ride and transported him to bus stop at Phelps Memorial Hospital to take next bus to Ossining.
Feb. 1
11:13 a.m. Caller reported a vehicle had hit a telephone pile in front of his residence at Bellwood Avenue. Officers reported no injuries, but requested duty tow for car with NY plates as well as Con Edison, Fire Department and Department of Public Works for pole split at the base and light fixture that came down off pole. DPW coned off road for safety. At 12:28 p.m. Con Edison was on the scene. Driver issued summons for damage to village property.
Feb. 2
2:23 p.m. Caller reported an odor of smoke inside the building at 80 Beekman Avenue. Caller believed it was coming from the rear of the building outside. Fire Department responded, along with building inspector. It was determined upon inspection that burning smell was coming from an open burn in the rear of 59 Chestnut Street. Fire had already been put out and was covered by an old BBQ. Attempts made to contact any residents there were unsuccessful; no one answered door and it appeared as if no one was home. 4:52 p.m. Small white and blue purse was found on Beekman Avenue. Contents were: Chase Visa card, one five-dollar bill, three quarters, three dimes, one nickel, fourteen pennies, one hair comb, a receipt for $75, prescription glasses in case, and blue Samsung cell phone. Items placed in police Lost and Found.
