Police Beat – Sleepy Hollow: Carbon Monoxide Poisoning, Car Thief Gets in Ossining Accident

A summary of incidents in Sleepy Hollow from November 21, 2011 to November 25, 2011

 

The Sleepy Hollow Police Department reported the following incidents:

Nov. 22 - 23

Carbon monoxide alarms sounding two nights in a row at the same address:

At 10:57 p.m., Nov. 22, there was a full fire response for carbon monoxide detection alarms sounding at 194 Beekman. An ambulance was requested on scene for a party complaining of symptoms of possible carbon monoxide exposure. The boiler in the basement had been converted from gas to oil and the alarm had been sounding for the past hour. No other parties reported feeling ill on the scene and the building was evacuated. The fire department checked building and obtained a positive reading for carbon monoxide. The building inspector found numerous building code violations and inspector advised no one to occupy basement.

On the following afternoon at 3:10 p.m., a 911 call was relayed through the Tarrytown PD for an active carbon monoxide detector coming from the basement. This time the fire department reported the carbon monoxide reading was coming from a hot water heater. The heater was shut off and windows were opened.

Nov. 23

8:07 p.m. Numerous 911 calls were received for a tree down across North Broadway by Peabody Field. The tree struck a vehicle, but no injuries to driver were reported. DPW cleared tree from roadway and Greenrock Security was contacted about damage to fence along N. Broadway.

8:24 p.m. There was a report of a window broken at the Beekman Laundromat at 115 Beekman, but officers were tied up with the downed tree so Tarrytown sent one unit to assist. Officers reported one under arrest had a hand laceration. Defendant was transported to Phelps Memorial Hospital and found to have an active warrant from Suffolk County. Due to injuries, fingerprints were not able to be taken.

Nov. 24 (Thanksgiving)

12:15 p.m. Caller stated turkey in oven set off fire alarm in the building on College Avenue. County Control had dispatched fire department and reported the same.

Nov. 25

4:29 p.m. Caller reported she left her vehicle unattended with the keys inside and the car running at 15 Depeyster Street. When returning back to the location, the vehicle was missing. Caller stated she canvassed the area for the car with negative results and then immediately called the police. Ossining PD responded to alarm sent out with information that the vehicle had been involved in an accident with driver having left scene. Ossining PD impounded the vehicle and were searching for driver.
