Police Beat - Sleepy Hollow: Hit and Run Driver Found, Water Main Break, Street Sparks
A summary of incidents in Sleepy Hollow from January 6 to 13, 2012.
The Sleepy Hollow Police Department reported the following incidents:
Jan. 7
10:08 p.m. Caller reported a hit and run on Lawrence Avenue, stating that a bluish Ford Explorer struck a parked vehicle and fled toward Beekman Avenue. The vehicle was believed to have heavy damage on the front driver's side. Three units sent and TTPD notified of same. One officer reported a possible vehicle matching description going over the H-bridge, further reporting he was stopped with vehicle at West Main Street by the boat club. A summons was issued; vehicle towed and accident report completed.
Jan. 8
12:07 a.m. Caller reported a water main broken on Sleepy Hollow Road. DWP Foreman Richard Gross contacted and he in turn called the water department to respond. Gross reported a water emergency at 12:22 a.m. Police Chief Camp contacted and advised but Mayor and Village Administrator could not be reached. Fire Chiefs paged and advised, along with County Fire Control. At 3:46 a.m., Fire Chief Korzelus called to report Sleepy Hollow Road would be closed from Webber Avenue to Old Sleepy Hollow Road in the town of Mt. Pleasant.
Jan. 10
1:03 a.m. Officer reported damage to car with NY plates parked on Pine Close. Vehicle missing passenger's side view mirror as well as the passenger's side window. Photos taken.
6:39 p.m. Another vehicle incident: Caller reported a Toyota Camry had its tire stolen while parked in the emergency room parking lot at Phelps Memorial Hospital. Officers confirmed that front driver's side tire, rim and hubcap were taken off approximately five minutes prior.
Jan. 11
8:07 a.m. Caller reported damage to her vehicle on Bellwood Avenue, with scratches and gas cap and driver's mirror stolen.
1:54 p.m. Caller reported finding a 22-caliber rifle (apart) in an apartment on 95 Beekman Avenue after the tenants had moved out. Weapons Safe-Keeping Form and Evidence sheet were completed. All forms and parts turned over to detective division.
Jan. 12
3:52 p.m. As reported here last week, a caller reported a transformer sparking with loud noises on Beekman Avenue. Units dispatched along with Fire Department; Con-Edison and Metro-North contacted, with location over the train tracks on the bridge. Road later reopened as per Con-Edison while they worked on problem.
Jan. 13
2:24 p.m. Walk-in party reported someone stole his headphones off his head on North Broadway. Case opened with detective division.
