Police Beat - Sleepy Hollow: Porch Opossum, Coyote Chase, Drunk Man Hits Tree

A summary of incidents in Sleepy Hollow from December 17 to December 23, 2011

 
The Sleepy Hollow Police Department reported the following incidents:

Dec. 17

3:25 p.m. Caller on North Broadway stated his next door neighbor was outside on the front lawn holding a rake in a threatening manner. He wanted incident noted for the record at this time.

Dec. 18

1:59 a.m. Anonymous female caller stated she received a call from someone who was crying and intoxicated, on Beekman Avenue by a bar. Police attempted to locate person to offer assistance if needed, finding her with a friend who was walking her home. The woman had facial injuries that appeared to be old but she did not give any information about how it happened when asked. 

Dec. 19

11:41 a.m. Caller reported she had a 16-year-old student with marijuana in her office at Sleepy Hollow High School. Office reported one under arrest and transported to headquarters for processing. 

4:22 p.m. A caller from Yonkers reported that the Phelps Memorial Hospital security guards broke her brother's leg in four places last Monday. Officers responded to scene and turned case over to detective division for follow up. 

8:44 p.m. Caller reported an opossum on their Depeyster Street porch and they didn't know what to do. Officer sent and instructed people that if they went indoors, animal would leave. They complied. 

8:08 a.m. An auto accident, as reported by Patch last week, with child struck by slow-moving vehicle on Pocantico Street while crossing to Morse School. No arrests or injuries, though the child was transported by ambulance for check up at Phelps. 

11 a.m. Valley Street caller stated she had received numerous calls from the same person regarding a possible coyote chasing children in the street. Officers responded to find no animal and no children. 

11:41 a.m. Caller stated his back car window had been broken into on Valley Street. Complainant stated he parked his car the night prior and when he arrived this morning noticed the rear window was damaged and driver's side had a dent. Witness stated the vehicle was damaged by children who were trying to get away from a dog that was attempting to bite them. According to the witness, the children jumped into the back trunk of the vehicle and window, causing it to break. The children then ran away from the dog. 

Dec. 22

2:09 a.m. Party came to headquarters reporting a disturbance at J.P. Doyle's. Officers went to scene where the three parties involved, including the complainant, all appeared to be intoxicated with conflicting stories. According to the two females interviewed the complainant had thrown beer at them. According to the complainant, the two girls were very rude and attacked her. She had no visible injuries. No formal statements were made on account of everyone's inebriated state and all involved went on their way without any further incident. Parties advised that if they would like to file complaints they could return to headquarters when sober.

6:20 p.m. Resident of Lawrence Avenue reported he came home from work to find his front doors had been forced open. Officers confirmed a burglary had occurred with forced entry through front door and damage to apartment doors. 

Dec. 22-23

11 p.m. Two North Broadway accidents reported on Patch last week included a car that hit a tree (a DWI), and the next morning at 8:39 a.m., an accident at the entrance to Phelps. At 9:14 a.m., while clearing the scene at Phelps, officers encountered a motorist who failed to obey lawful directions. Driver admitted to being unlicensed when instructed to produce a license.
