Police Beat - Tarrytown: Bumper in Yard, Silly String, Doubletree Troubles
A summary of incidents in Tarrytown from January 12 to 19, 2012
The Tarrytown Police Department reported the following incidents:
Jan. 12
11:39 a.m. Woman reported that since Dec. 23 she has received approximately 20 unwanted phone calls from whom she believes to be the same caller/organization. The calls come to her home phone, cell, and work phone. The unknown caller usually states that she is involved in legal action and she "better have her lawyer call back or she will be thrown in jail." The caller I.D. usually indicates a private or restricted number. Complainant stated she is not involved in any legal action and does not have any debt other than student loans. Incident noted for the record and woman advised to follow up with telephone company.
2:12 p.m. As we reported last week, a vehicle drove off the roadway, as part of a supposed "parking mishap," according to the police, ending up on the front lawn of 69 Main Street. Stiloski's was notified for a duty tow and the Tarrytown Volunteer Ambulance Corps was called to evaluate both driver and passenger at the scene. The DPW cleared debris in the roadway due to the wall that was damaged on the property edge. Accident report filed.
Jan. 13
5:13 p.m. Call from an anonymous party reported that there was a large volume of water spilling into the roadway of Green Street, next to the Tarrytown Fire Department Fire Training Center. Officers responding and reported that they were unsure if a water main had broken or if it was residual water from rain storm. Water Department supervisor reported it was over flow from the basin in the area. Condition monitored.
8:16 p.m. Call from Westchester County Fire Control reporting they received a cellular call reporting a physical dispute inside a small white vehicle at the train station. Anonymous caller also reported same dispute in the nonresident lot on Green Street. Officers responded but were unable to locate. Caller could also only give description of small white vehicle, no plates or direction of travel. All units notified.
Jan. 14
1:23 a.m. Caller at Doubletree Hotel reported an intoxicated guest was using abusive and obscene language towards employees and wished for the guest to be escorted off the premises. Officer reported one female defendant placed under arrest for disorderly conduct for engaging in various loud, offensive, obscene and disruptive behaviors. The defendant also charged with resisting arrest by flailing her arms and refusing to be handcuffed. She was transported to headquarters for processing. Defendant complained of needing medication and medical assistance, but she then was uncooperative and refused any medical assistance. Released on $500 cash bail for return court date of Jan. 18.
3:21 a.m. Caller reported a possible boiler fire inside of his Carrollwood Drive residence. Fire Department requested Con Edison for emergency turn-off service. Con Edison reported estimated time of arrival within 40 minutes. Fire Department confirmed possible boiler problem, reported that the smoke had dissipated, but would wait for Con Edison.
1:51 p.m. Call from the Doubletree again, this time reporting possible criminal mischief in a hotel room. A guest reportedly damaged property inside a room, breaking a large glass window. Guest was unavailable to be interviewed. Incident noted for the record.
4:13 p.m. Homeowner on Barnes Road reported that he just returned home to find damage to the railing and column of his front porch and shrubs, and also there was a car bumper in his yard. Officer on scene confirmed damage and conducted a canvas of the area, locating the car on Barnes Road that was involved in the accident. Driver stated that she would make restitution for damages and both homeowners satisfied.
Jan. 15
10:34 a.m. Caller requested police for a male acting disorderly inside a store at the Bridge Plaza at 350 S. Broadway. The man, when interviewed by police, said he was homeless and looking for work. He believed store employee was making fun of him due to a language barrier. He refused any police assistance and planned to take the train back to Manhattan.
Jan. 16
1:04 a.m. Caller reported a 2008 Honda Accord was sprayed with Silly String on Jan. 6 while vehicle was parked in the culdesac on Hillside Street. Incident noted for the record; caller believed she knew suspects.
12:04 p.m. Emergency 911 call reported a truck was leaking fuel at the Shell Gas Station at 372 S. Broadway. Tarrytown Fire Department advised that diesel fuel was leaking and West County Hazmat be contacted. Officer on stand by at intersection of routes 119 and 87 for traffic control. Fire Chief reported clean up crew en route.
Jan. 18
5:10 p.m. Manager from Mobil Gas station at 440 S. Broadway reported there was a person there who he recognized as passing counterfeit money approximately two weeks ago, both there and at another station in Ardsley. Person in question was described as black male, who was exiting the station south on Route 9 in a black vehicle. He attempted to pass counterfeit $50 and $20 bills which he took with him when he left the store. Officers stopped vehicle in front of the Doubletree; a passenger in the car was interviewed and released. Complainant positively identified the driver and a statement was taken. The vehicle was impounded and secured in Tarrytown PD parking lot. Defendant processed and detective division and secret service agent notified. Defendant arraigned and remanded to county jail, no rap no bail, for return court date of Jan. 25.
