Police Beat – Tarrytown: Door Beaten Open, Loud Muffler Panic Attack, Sweepstake Scam
A summary of incidents in Tarrytown from November 10, 2011 to November 17, 2011
The Tarrytown Police Department reported the following incidents:
Nov. 10
2:47 a.m. Caller on John Street reported he arrived home and found his friend may have possibly overdosed on 36 medication pills. The person was transported to Westchester County Medical Center via Tarrytown Ambulance.
4:59 p.m. Driver reported he had struck a young male running across Franklin Street at the intersection of John Street. Officers responded and requested an ambulance for a 10-year-old with arm pain. The mother on scene gave permission for her son to be transported to the Westchester Medical Center’s children hospital.
Nov. 11
12:31 a.m. Officer stopped a vehicle on South Broadway for the traffic infraction of a loud muffler, when the operator started experiencing chest pains and suffering from a panic attack. Officer requested medical assistance. An inquiry revealed the operator had one suspension on one date (failure to answer a summons) in the town of Tuxedo. The aided was transported by ambulance to Phelps Memorial Hospital and there in the ER was issued universal traffic tickets, returnable to court 11/16.
2:35 p.m. Police received a 911 call from a woman stating that she was in her basement working out on Round a Bend Road while her two-year-old daughter was in her upstairs bedroom taking a nap, when she heard a loud banging on the front door followed by a loud crash. Officers were dispatched while keeping the caller on the line. On scene, they reported the door wide open and damaged. Officers conducted a building search of premises and had child safely reunited with mother out of the residence. Building search yielded negative results for a suspect(s). At 2:48, the Westchester County PD was contacted with aviation and canine requested. The MTA police canine unit searched twice, twice terminating in the wooded area at the dead end of Whitetail Road. A building search was then conducted yielding negative results. A 50-minute aerial search of area also yielded no results.
Nov. 12
9:42 p.m. Caller reported her husband was highly intoxicated and wanted to beat her up. Upon police arrival at the White Street apartment, the woman stated she was involved in a dispute with her husband, who just left. Both parties reportedly pushed and scratched each other. The man was found outside and was highly intoxicated; he voluntarily turned over one clear plastic bag of marijuana and was then placed under arrest and transported to headquarters. He sustained small scratches to his chest during the incident. Neither party wished to press charges. Man was given a return court date for possession of 11/16.
Nov. 15
10:49 a.m. Stop & Shop manager called to report a possible scheme to defraud a customer involving a Western Union money transfer. Complainant reported that she was notified via phone at her residence that she had won a sweepstakes for over $300,000 from American Services Network at 2100 42nd Avenue, Miami, FL 33166. She was told that that had to send them cash upfront before she could receive her winnings. On Monday Nov. 14, she sent via Western Union $1,696 in cash to a Western Union in Florida.
Complainants are still coming forward with reports of money being stolen from their Chase checking accounts. A North Washington Street resident reported $1,000 stolen on Nov. 15. A South Broadway resident reported a past grand larceny of $1,000, also from a Chase account, by way of an ATM skimming device. The money was withdrawn in two separate transactions on Nov. 6 of $800 and $200. Another complainant on Nov. 17 reported a total loss of $3,321.85 from his Chase account on nine separate occasions using his ATM number.
Nov. 16
6:00 a.m. Caller reported a suspicious white male banging on the front door of her residence at Carrollwood Drive. The person stopped when she told him that she was going to call the police, but caller reported suspect was still in area. Caller further stated that the individual was masturbating in the vicinity of her residence, but only wished for this to be noted for the record.
10:47 a.m. Caller reported she heard loud banging on her front door. Officers responded and she reported that a male had entered her residence on West Elizabeth Street. She described him as 18-year-old, thin build, 5’6”, light skinned black male, wearing a black hooded sweatshirt and a black backpack with red detailing. The male knocked on her door three times and then entered the unlocked door when resident did not answer. The male then saw her and ran outside, travelling westbound on the street, turning right onto South Washington Street, travelling northbound. Police canvassed area with negative results.
