Police Beat - Tarrytown: Girl Struck Twice by Car on Way to Middle School
A summary of incidents in Tarrytown from January 19 to 26, 2012
The Tarrytown Police Department reported the following incidents:
Jan. 19
10:09 a.m. Property Manager of the Edgemont Condos on Martling Avenue reported an at approximately 12:30 a.m. an unknown person egged the front of the building. Homeowner had discovered the egging on the exterior of her residence that morning and believed it to be part of an ongoing dispute between her and her neighbors in the complex. Noted for the record at this time.
2:02 p.m. Complainant reported he received three phone calls on Jan. 18 between 1:30 and 4:30 p.m. from an unknown male stating he was his nephew and was in need of money. He asked him to wire $2,423 Western Union to Arima, Trinidad. Complainant did not send money and wanted incident noted for the record.
6:48 p.m. More calls soliciting for money came to a Storm Street resident, who said she received at least six calls on her cell phone from a male. He told her she had legal action pending against her and needed to send him money. He also had her social security number and the address of her place of employment. She reported she had no pending litigation and wished matter noted for record; information forwarded to detective division.
10:05 p.m. Officer out on a vehicle stop reported stopping an operator of a 1993 Toyota without a license. He identified himself and check revealed person to have driving privileges suspended as of Nov. 5, 2011. Defendant was taken into custody without incident, but further investigation revealed he had falsely identified himself as his brother. Defendant's mother came to headquarters with his passport (Ecuador), positively identifying him. He was booked for second degree criminal impersonation, unlicensed operation, and defective plate lamp. He was released on $200 cash bail to return to Village Court on Feb. 1.
Jan. 20
5:55 a.m. The call came in from a tenant at 49 Windle Park that her porch was on fire and smoke was entering the residence. The Fire Department requested “all available manpower” with a large response coming from area departments. Officers closed Riverview Avenue to Washington Street to vehicular traffic. The Tarrytown Volunteer Ambulance Corps was on standby. At 6:50 a.m., Police Chief Brown requested them to respond for smoke exposure. Aided refused medical attention on scene. At 6:51 a.m., an ambulance was requested for an injured firefighter who was transported to Phelps Memorial Hospital where he was treated and released that day. 9:12 a.m. Caller reported her daughter was struck by a vehicle in front of 117 North Washington Street and was experiencing leg and hip pain. Police reported that the accident occurred at approximately 8:05 a.m. while the girl was walking to Sleepy Hollow Middle School. She was struck by an unknown gray vehicle twice in the left leg/hip area. She reported feeling pain but did not know what to do so she continued on to school, assisted by an unknown student. There, school official contacted her mother who then called the police. Girl was transported to Phelps to get her leg checked out.
2:03 p.m. The manager of the Striped Bass restaurant came to headquarters to report that while she was parked in her vehicle in the employee lot, an ex-employee confronted her about monies owed to him by the restaurant ownership. He became very angry and reportedly used abusive and obscene language in front of her two young children, then proceeded to expose his penis and urinate on the side of the exterior of the restaurant wall. He then jumped up and grabbed a restaurant sign and broke it off. Complaint was filed and formal charges lodged for public lewdness and fourth degree criminal mischief. Defendant interviewed and placed in booking cell awaiting arraignment. At 6:50 p.m., he was remanded to Westchester County Jail by Judge McGovern on $5,000 cash bail/$7,500 bond.
Jan. 22
4:38 p.m. A caller requested an ambulance for a five-year-old boy on Benedict Avenue with possible head injury from sleigh riding injury. Boy was transported to Westchester Medical Center.
Jan. 23
3:06 p.m. Multiple emergency 911 calls as well as calls from Con Edison and County Fire Control came in reporting a heavy odor of natural gas from the following locations: 350 S. Broadway (all stores in the Bridge Plaza), 333 S. Broadway (NYSP Barracks), 372 S. Broadway (Shell), 360 S. Broadway (Chase), 120 White Plains Road, 155 White Plains Road, 50 Prospect Avenue (Hitachi), and 150 White Plains Road. Fire Department and officers dispatched; Con Edison gas emergency responded.
Jan. 26
3:07 p.m. In an incident reading much one from like last week's Police Beat, a caller reported possible intoxicated guests inside of a room at the Doubletree Hotel making loud noises (yelling, playing loud music) which was disturbing the peace, quiet and comfort of other guests in vicinity. Guests in the room reportedly had refused to let hotel security enter the room. Officer reported one female defendant placed under arrest for disorderly conduct engaging in loud, offensive, obscene, disruptive behavior. Defendant also charged with resisting arrest for preventing and refusing to be handcuffed by flailing her arms. She was transported to headquarters for processing. At 3:45 a.m. she complained of difficulty breathing and was transported to Phelps via TVAC with officer on board.
