Restaurant Week Coming Soon to Tarrytown

Hudson Valley Restaurant Week takes place March 15-28.

The Hudson Vallery Restaurant Week is fast approaching and six Tarrytown restaurants, so far, have jumped on the culinary wagon.

Bistro Z, Caravela, Equus at the Castle on Hudson, Harvest Grille at the Marriott, Ruth's Chris Steak House and Sweet Grass Grill will be participating in the two-week feast starting March 15.

The event is aimed at raising awareness of, and promoting, local restaurants and local products/produce. Top restaurants in the mid- and lower-Hudson Valley offer special three-course dinner menus for $28.00 and many also offer 3-course lunches for $20.00 (prices don't included drinks, tax or tips). Many of the restaurants source ingredients in the area and try to keep meals as local as possible.

"We're participating because our philosophy is farm to table dining," said the co-partner of Sweet Grass Grill, Theresa McCarthy. "It's an outreach opportunity... it's also important to support the local community and we want to participate in that."

Although they have not firmed up their menu for the event, Sweet Grass Grill will be looking at using local produce and will also be offering locally produced wine from Millbrook Vineyards.

Organizers of the event are expecting more than 150,000 people to dine out at participating restaurants, which provides an appreciated burst of business for restaurants.

"Business was great last year, it really got us rocking and rolling," Chef De Cuisine of Bistro Z, James Rosenbauer, said.

This is the second year Rosenbauer has prepared a menu for the event. He said the event gives him an opportunity to reach out to a larger audience.

"When most people think of a restaurant in a hotel, they step back," he said. "This is a good way to bring in new clientele and to show that good things are happening here."

In its 4th year, the 2010 Hudson Valley Restaurant Week has signed up more than 125 restaurants in Westchester, Rockland, Orange, Putnam, Dutchess, Ulster, and Columbia counties – the longest list definitely being Westchester's restaurants, with 56.

Some of the closest restaurants to Tarrytown and Sleepy Hollow are Il Sorriso, Mima and River City Grille in Irvington; Orissa, Half Moon, Off Broadway Restaurant and The Cookery in Dobbs Ferry; and Goldfish Restaurant and Mauro's Restaurant & Bar in Ossining.

So far, Patch has reviewed Sweet Grass Grill; Here's what Patch contributor Michall Jeffers had to say:

"Using local ingredients in season (as proclaimed by the blackboard out front) and being committed to buying and cooking green is costly in the restaurant business. The fact that the prices at Sweet Grass are so reasonable truly underscores the commitment to excellence and accessibility which are so evident at this delightful eatery."

Ready to dine? Restaurant Week does not require passes, tickets or coupons. You just choose from a list of participating restaurants and call your pick to make a reservation. Reservations are encouraged.

Also, note that participating restaurants will follow their own business schedule, so make sure you call the restaurant directly to confirm hours.
