Scavengers: Pirates Take Sleepy Hollow, Round Two

The first year was such a great success, Historic Hudson decided to have the Pirates lay siege to Philipsburg Manor for a whole week. So far so good, if you like swords, scavenger hunts, and Captain Lawrence.

At the through the end of the week, budding pirates can take the scavenger hunt approach to their visit, getting a stamp at each station that leads to a prize:

1. Find the mermaids. People linger long at the mermaid tank... I wonder why?

2. Find Captain Kidd's Cove. There's a pirate training school here and a man with very thick fingers and lots of rings and knives. Cool.

3. Find the dreaded Kracken. That's a giant squid for the uninitiated.

4. Find the scallywag galley anchor. This is the tent where there's jump-up-and-down music and they serve the good Kolsch if you're thirsty and old enough.

5. Find Molly Roger's tattoo hut. For you're no a pirate without the skull-n-bones.

6. Find Perwick and the Sea Witch's Weathercraft Cottage. This lady has a one normal eye and one toxic colored yellow-green one. (She says a parrot spit on her.)

7. Find Calypso's Hut. This scavenger hunt does not go linearly, but therein lies the fun. And such is the message of the fortune teller who reads the bones in a very personal and telling way.

8. Find Barnacle Bill's Shipwreck. These bubbles are no ordinary bubbles. You almost want to eat them like cotton candy as they fill a sea foamy ship, but I wouldn't recommend that.

9. Find Dr. Grymm's Museum. Dr. Grymm has a very exciting eye telescope thingy that he wears all the time (as seen at the ). He also likes to craft funky experimental oddities like a machine meant to extract the song from a fish. (No luck yet.) Meanwhile, the piratess (lady pirate?) nearby is using a bellows to cool herself. What's that, a kid asks. Air conditioning.

10. The blacksmith is fixing Princess Marina's crown. Fire!

11. Find Davy Jone's Revenge. Ship of fools! Kids are cannon-balling this poor boat with whiffle balls, get thee to shore!

Go to Princess Marina for your prize. I won't tell what it is but my kids were very excited. I had a good time too. Two hook-hands up.
