Tarrytown Trustees, Mayor Nominated to Rerun

Without incident and in 10 minutes, Tarrytown Democrats selected their incumbent candidates for March mayoral and trustee elections.

Quietly and without incident or competition, Tarrytown held their Democratic Caucus and again nominated all their sitting candidates whose terms are up.

Mayor Drew Fixell will run for another term, having only decided to do so two weeks ago, following a long bout with “endless bronchitis," he said.

In a very quick ten minute caucus, “with no controversy,” said Fixell, he and the three incumbent Trustees were nominated.

3. Tom Butler

Linda Viertel, Chairperson of the Democratic Committee, was unable to make the meeting, so Deputy Mayor Tom Basher served as temporary chair as all candidates were unanimously accepted.

There is also a petition for them to run on the Tarrytown United line as well.

Fixell said they do know for sure there won’t be any Republican candidates this time as no one filed or caucused by the required deadline.

But independent candidates have until mid-February to mount a petition, so “we don’t know for sure,” Fixell said.

As far as what’s on his team’s agenda, Fixell spoke of continuing the work at hand.

“Given the tough times economically, we’ve shown we’ve done a good job. There’s still lots to complete and continue,” Fixell said. “We’re still in a position to make Tarrytown a better place and we’ve shown experience and flexibility.”

Issues Fixell hopes to complete and continue include:

  • economics,
  • the Tappan Zee Bridge rebuild,
  • and waterfront development both private and public

Fixell spoke of his team as "very varied," from different backgrounds both politically and professionally and from different neighborhoods, but always working well together. "We almost always achieve consensus and agreement and try to come to conclusions we are all comfortable with. Ninety-five percent of the time we achieve that."
