The Avid Antiquer: Antiquing in the Villages

This week: Antiquing hot spots in Tarrytown and Sleepy Hollow.

 

Fall is a great time of year for antiques enthusiasts. In addition to the plethora of weekend antiques fairs and shows available, this is also one of the busiest seasons for garage and estate sales.

Whether antiquing has always been a hobby of yours, or if you are just recently realized its benefits thanks to our economic climate, knowing where to shop is the key to it all. Luckily, Tarrytown and Sleepy Hollow are home to several antiquing hot spots.

Michael Christopher Antiques

23 Main Street, Tarrytown - 366-4665

Open for 25 years in its present location, this store specializes in formal furnishings from the 19th and early 20th centuries and lighting. Open Wednesday through Sunday from 1:30 p.m. - 5:30 p.m.

W.J. Zimmer & Company

23 Main Street, Tarrytown - 631-0030

A Tarrytown staple since 1899, this store carries small items in addition to carrying estate and antique jewelry and watches. Open Monday through Sunday from 12 p.m. - 6 p.m.

Belkind Bigi Antiques

21 Main Street, Tarrytown - 524-9626

Specializing in mid 20th century modern designs, this store carries American, Scandinavian and Italian furniture and accessories. Open Tuesday through Sunday from 11:30 a.m. - 5 p.m. and Saturday from 11:30 a.m. - 6 p.m.

M.S. Antiques

19 Main Street, Tarrytown - 332-8210

Stop in to buy and or sell at this store featuring furniture, art work, lighting, mirrors and more. Open Wednesday through Sunday from 11 a.m. - 6 p.m.

The Curio Shop

13 Main Street, Tarrytown - 366-8410

As the name of the store suggests, this store features primarily curios, but that does not mean there are not a good amount of accessories inside as well. Open Wednesday through Sunday from 1:30 p.m. - 5:30 p.m.

Juliana Rose

11 Main Street, Tarrytown - 366-8266

This Parisian style boutique features furniture, lighting, accessories, seating, prints and more. Open Wednesday through Sunday from 1 p.m. - 5 p.m.

Carol Master Antiques

10 Main Street, Tarrytown - 332-8441

Another store featuring an eclectic mix of furniture including writing tables and desks, mirrors, seating and garden items. Open Wednesday - Thursday from 11 a.m. - 4 p.m., Saturday from 11 .a.m. - 5 p.m. and Sunday from 12 p.m. - 5 p.m.

Pretty Funny Vintage

 80 South Broadway, Tarrytown - 631-3368

Home to "antiques and curious goods," this store features two levels of retro items, eclectic and industrial furniture, clothing and $10 costume jewelry. Open Wednesday through Sunday from 11 a.m. - 5 p.m.

Hank's Alley

24 Kaldenberg Place, Tarrytown - 524-9895

One of the largest antiques stores in Westchester is housed in an old firehouse. This store sells everything from furniture, linens, bric-a-brac and more. Open Wednesday through Sunday from 9:30 a.m. - 4:30 p.m.

Dixon Lane Antiques

1 Dixon Lane, Tarrytown - 366-6090

This store features antique and modern furniture, lighting, fine art, fashion, carpets, folk art and more. Hours by appointment only.

Hennessy Home Accents

16 New Broadway, Sleepy Hollow - 631-2068

Opened just one year ago, this store specializes in farmhouse tables from Kentucky, blanket chests, hutches and some new and eclectic furniture. Open Thursday through Sunday from 11 a.m. - 5 p.m. and by appointment.
