TUFSD Children Sample Cultures at EF Fair

EF summer students hosted about 20 kids and their families on a tour of the world.

Last Saturday, summer students became cultural ambassadors, hosting local elementary kids and their parents in a day dedicated to international exploration and education.

Over 20 local families brought their children to the international academy's campus to learn about different cultures and traditions. Children, aged 4 to 7, walked around with a 'passport' to visit different 'countries.' EF students served as tour guides and teachers, introducing their countries through activities including:

  • Stories in native tongue

  • Visual image montage of the countries and explanation in English

  • Creative workshops run by international students teaching children  how to write their names in a different language, including a hands-on calligraphy lesson

  • Participation in traditional songs & dance

  • Puppet-shows focusing on culture

  • Games with maps & local currency

  • Simple food preparation
  • Young people experienced the language, music, dance, art, costume, and cultural traditions of China, Thailand, Mexico, Germany, Korea, Russia, Kazakhstan, Vietnam and beyond.

This is part of the school's continuing efforts to reach out to the community; stay tuned for things such as possible free Chinese lessons for kids in the fall.
