On New Year's Eve, approximately one million celebrants are expected to gather in Manhattan's Times Square to watch the vibrant Waterford crystal ball descend the flagpole. Most local eating establishments will be open on New Year's Eve for dinner if you prefer to dine nearby and usher the new year in at home. Several restaurants offer prix-fixe menus on New Year's Eve including Chiboust ($75), Equus ($79 and $175), Moon River Grill ($39.95) and Santa Fe ($18). 

The four-course, $79 per person, prix-fixe menu at the elegant Equus in the Castle on the Hudson applies for early seating on New Year's Eve. The entrée choices are sautéed halibut, Burgundy duck, filet mignon of beef, or roast saddle of lamb stuffed with figs, olives, pine nuts and sweet peppers. The six-course $175 prix-fixe menu, served at 8:45 p.m. includes the same main-course selections. Both dinners begin with a glass of champagne. 

The newly opened Moon River Grill will provide five entree choices for its $39.95 three-course New Year's Eve dinner: Surf and Turf (a 5-ounce lobster tail and an eight-ounce filet), lamb chops, filet of sole with crabmeat stuffing, lobster ravioli, or pan-seared chicken breast with porcini mushroom and brandy sauce. Its New Year's Day brunch will include Eggs Benedict at $12.95, a three-egg omelette at $12.95, and salads, seafood and pasta dishes beginning at $11.95.

Sweet Grass Grill which was closed on Christmas Eve and Day, will be open on both days with its new chef David Kanter in charge of the kitchen.

Finalmente will pour a free glass of prosecco for all adults having dinner on New Year's Eve.

The Tarrytown Music Hall has a rock 'n roll show at 8 p.m. on New Year's Day so allow extra time for parking if dining at a nearby restaurant.
