by the Yonkers Library Foundation.\n&nbsp\;Doughba Hamilton Caranda- Ma
rtin&rsquo\;s large scale multimedia pieces work with transglobal themes
of love and war\, antiquity and modernity\, and racial identity. Incorp
orating traditional Liberian objects with a conceptual agenda\, Caranda-
Martin uses history as both an abstract and narrative tool for telling t
he stories of his experience escaping Liberian civil war by traveling to
the United States as an adolescent. While Caranda-Martin's work is fier
cely personal\, his work speaks to a wider audience about the politics o
f diasporic identity- building amidst political violence. Ranging from i
ntricate hypnotic large scale series to minimal watercolors\, Caranda-Ma
rtin's body of work is diverse in material and form. The viewer is hit w
ith a complexity of emotional and intellectual revelations about the hum
an condition.\n&nbsp\;Educated at both the University of Liberia and the
School of Visual Arts\, Caranda-Martin has exhibited at Stuart Fine Art
Gallery\, Gale Martin Gallery\, and Atmosphere Gallery in NYC. He has l
ectured at major universities and museums across the U.S. sharing his ex
perience and artistic process.&nbsp\;\n&nbsp\;In conjunction with Sarah
Lawrence College&rsquo\;s Office of Community Partnerships and Service L
earning\, the class in non-Western art history\, taught by Professor Sus
an Kart\, has curated and organized the show as part of an ongoing effor
t to connect students with the Yonkers community.&nbsp\;\n&nbsp\;\n##\n&
