Christmas Night Fire at the Fruit Store

CHRISTMAS NIGHT FIRE.
Does Thousand Dollar Damage to Sampieri's Fruit Store
The firemen belonging to Hope Hose Company, Conqueror Hook & Ladder Company, Phenix, Riverside and Washington Engine Company received their Christmas present last evening in the shape of a short but stubborn fire in the fruit store and apartments in the rear of this store conducted by Antonio Sampieri on Orchard Street. Alarm 35 was rung in at about ten minutes to ten and when Phenix, who were the first to arrive, had laid their hose, there was considerable of a blaze in the store. The fire and smoke kept the fire laddies busy until quarter of eleven when Chief Engineer Lyon declared the fire out.
According to Sampieri, the fire was caused by a lighted candle which fell on a bed in his apartments which are in the rear of the store, and started the blaze. We understand this is the fourth fire that Sampieri has had, three others occuring to stores which he conducted in North Tarrytown.
The damage to the building, which is owned by Hymen Levy, is about $700 and the damage to Sampieri's goods about $300.
