Tarrytown Trustees discuss street lights and fire truck tires. Nov. 28th 1913

LIGHTING QUESTION DISCUSSED.
Trustees Considering Making a "White Way" of Main Street.
Most of Friday evening's meeting of the Tarrytown Trustees was taken up in the discussion with representatives of the Westchester Lighting Company on the lighting question. Although no definite conclusions were reached nor a contract price fixed, the tenor of the expressions made was to have one of the business streets in Tarrytown more brilliantly illuminated and another of the business thoroughfares and a portion of Broadway given more light and a larger candle power.
The Board seemed to be favorable toward placing in Depot Square and Main street four lights to be mounted upon iron poles and to be placed on each side of the street one hundred feet apart. The arc lights are to be done away with and on every pole on Broadway from the Florence Inn north and on every pole on Orchard street one lamp of sixty candle power is to be placed.
This evening another meeting of the Board will be held when the matter will be threshed out and a final decision reached.
The only other matter brought up was the tire question for the coming automobile apparatus of Hope Hose Company and Phenix Hose Company. Representatives from these two companies were present and stated that their companies were in favor of the Dayton airless tires. Mr. Pierson informed the committees that the automobile people preferred the Goodyear tires. The matter was put over until the next meeting.
Architect Joseph Blouin, Jr., presented a plan to improve the quarters of Phenix Hose Company so that the new automobile apparatus might be safely housed. The cost would be $200. This matter was also laid over.
