Scene Around Town: How's the View Up There?

Each day, Patch provides the nuts and bolts of local happenings with our five-bullet local dispatch.

1) As seen around town -- these guys were up on the Reformed Church tower for some high-elevation work on Monday's spring-like day. The North Broadway church is getting some new roofing and workers are scraping and repainting the trademark spire. Have photos from your wanderings around of interesting people doing interesting things? Share them in our photo gallery here.

2) Small business owners: Sign up for this seminar now in early Dec. in Tarrytown. 'Building Blocks for Today's Neighborhood Retailers,' presented by the New York Association of Convenience Stores, is a one-day laboratory of learning, networking, and product sourcing for retailers from the Hudson Valley, Metro New York, and surrounding areas. More info here.

3) Sleepy Hollow's Happy Badger is out and about finding great local bargains just when you need it most. More from Tanya Monier's lastest post here

4) Overnight rain on Sunday night likely extinguished all but most stubborn elements of the brush fire that began last Thursday and burned through 350 acres of parkland on Clausland Mountain in Orangeburg, but it took a large coordinated effort by volunteer firefighters, police and other emergency responders to get to that point. "It was phenomenal," Rockland County Fire Coordinator Gordon Wren said. Among the huge response, were some from our side of the river. Tarrytown Volunteer Firefighters were on standby for two days at the Nyack Fire Station. Read the story of the full efforts here.

5) Back to the chill. We're expected to see a high of 48 today with wind gusts and a low overnight of below-freezing 27 degrees.
