Tarrytown Honors its GunpowdersKids Volunteers

Each day, Patch provides the nuts and bolts of local happenings with our five-bullet local dispatch.

1) Today is Gunpowerskids Day! And what's that mean? Local kids got a nice proclamation from Mayor Drew Fixell this weekend declaring Tuesday in their honor for the good service they've done to beautify and improve our community all year.

The Proclamation as read to the group at a party at Warner Library this weekend:

Whereas, the children recognized by GunpowdersKids have given back to the Village of Tarrytown by volunteering to help others; and

Now, Therefore Be It Resolved that I, Drew Fixell, Mayor of the Village of Tarrytown, New York, thank and commend the children recognized by GunpowdersKids and hereby declare Tuesday, October 22, 2013 GunpowdersKids Day in the Village of Tarrytown, New York

2) There's plenty going on by dark this weekend, but here's a good way to start your day: the Sign Language Olympics this Saturday promises fun in the fresh air for the whole family. No sign language skills required, but you are helping to raise money for this special program for our district's youngest students by joining in on hilarious competitions such as the egg toss. More info here.

3) Temperatures will be in the low 60s.

4) Everybody wants to know when daylight saving time ends.

5) In his new blog, a lawyer argues that federal disability benefits are not the victim of widespread fraud.
