Afya Foundation Baby Blanket & Hat Drive This Mother's Day
Afya and WESTMED Practice Partners are working to reduce maternal and infant mortality. A collection drive will be held from now until Mother's Day. Click here for more information!
Did you know that 99% of maternal death occurs in the developing world? This Mother's Day we are trying to reduce this statistic.
The Afya Foundation is joining with WESTMED Practice Partners to rally the local community to collect and donate gently used baby blankets and hats, among other items, for our maternal health initiative, Wazazi: Supporting Maternal Health.
Items collected will be used to create birthkits and then sent to trained midwives and health care professionals in Malawi.

Here is a full list of Baby and household items being collected:
- Medical gloves
- Plastic sheets
- Baby blankets
- Infant hooded towels
- Baby hats
- Purell (or any type of hand sanitizer)
- Ziploc bags
- Rain ponchos and rain boots for midwives
- Povidone Iodine sticks
The supplies will be sorted, turned into individual birth kits, and shipped
to midwives and healthcare professionals abroad. The midwives receiving
the kits will then be trained to utilize them properly. Help us green our local community by donating your gently used items to families in need. Honor a mother in your life by helping to save another mother's life.
