Volunteers Have Heart(s)

The Volunteer Center's Valentines and Volunteers project to benefit Blythedale Children's Hospital

"I want to work with people."

The internet has revolutionized communication for every industry, especially for nonprofits like The Volunteer Center.  We send out newsletters by email, we update our website regularly, our profiles on Facebook and Twitter are important to us and here we are blogging.  It is then easy to forget that it is the human connection that we look forward to and, for many volunteers, what they want when they commit to serve.

This past weekend, The Volunteer Center sponsored the MLK Day of Service with over 20 projects around our area.  It was a day where the human connection was reinforced and neighbor helped neighbor and showed that they care.

With hundreds of people serving on one day, we need another project for people to show their commitment to our community. The Volunteer Center has organized Valentines and Volunteers, an opportunity for individuals, families, colleagues, groups and you to show you care by making heart-shaped window clings destined for Blythedale Children's Hospital

For the children who are treated at the hospital, their families, the staff and volunteers, it will be uplifting when they see scores of colorful window valentines around them.

The project itself is easy to do (we found it on the internet on another blog!) and requires just wax paper or aluminum foil and fabric paint. Details are found on our website at www.volunteer-center.org.

Since it is winter, we are not taking any chances with the weather.  The project can be done at home or at the office.  Give the clings plenty of time to dry and should be delivered to The Volunteer Center by February 5th so we can bring them over to Blythedale Children's Hospital with plenty of time for them to decorate for Valentine's Day.
