MLK Day of Service Project Submissions Due by 11/22

Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.'s charismatic leadership inspired men and women to fight societal inequalities.  His message of empowerment -- that even one person can make a difference -- survives.

The Volunteer Center of United Way's staff members Nathalie and Katie are connecting with area nonprofits and seeking projects for our third annual MLK Day of Service being held on Saturday, Jan. 18th, 2014. It is an opportunity for individuals, families, and groups to work together with an area organization.  In 2013, hundreds of people joined together on the day with community organizations and worked together on projects focusing their efforts on fighting hunger.

"We're still receiving project submissions and there is an easy online form on our website," noted Katie.  The webpage for submissions is http://www.volunteer-center.org/submit

In 2014, the Day of Service will again focus on one of Dr. King's targets: Poverty.  It is present in our area and affects already at-risk populations, such as childrenseniorsunemployed, the disabledimmigrants, and others.

"The message of MLK is one of great ability on the part of each one of us to solve these problems in our communities," says Nathalie. "We can alleviate suffering and know that our efforts are helping those in need."

Please join us as we honor MLK on Saturday, January 18th.  Registration will begin on The Volunteer Center's website and by phone in mid-December 2013.
