Why Au Naturel?

Low dose toxins - the ingredients in the products we use everyday.

We need to ask ourselves what effects can regular exposure to low dose toxins have on our health?

In knowing one toxin, arsenic, at levels permitted by the Environmental Protection Agency is in our water, and negatively affects the immune factors vital in fighting off infections begs the question – if one toxin has this potential, then what can the cocktail of chemicals we are subjected to every single day cause?

Plenty of research is available about toxins, in seemingly innocuous places, we are exposed to toxins on a regular basis – the receipts at cash registers have Bis-phenol A, a known hormone disruptor; cooking or heating food in plastic containers using a microwave releases dioxins into your food; triclosan, an antimicrobial found in the majority of hand washes, toothpastes and soaps, and it is a registered pesticide.

Personally, I was stunned when I learned that chemicals used in pesticides were found in skincare products. Am I a bug is someone trying to get rid of me?

Another chemical found in skincare is glycol, like polyethylene glycol (PEG), found routinely in shampoos and other detergents, and is used as antifreeze in lab experiments. Am I a lab experiment?

The list is endless, but my point is simple. Unless you live in a hermetically sealed bubble, you get exposed to chemicals and toxins every single day.

More importantly, not all these sources are under your absolute control.

Given these unseen obstacles your body has to face every day, doesn’t it make sense to control all the aspects of life you can to give yourself the best possible chance for health?

A good place to start is by taking stock of what you put in and on your body.

Your skin is your body's largest organ and 60% of everythng you put on it is absorbed in your system and faster than anything you eat.

A big part of the problem is that the teachers' expectations about what supplies are necessary haveRead More become so extreme. When my kids were in school in Tarrytown, we would get a list at the beginning of every school year of the supplies we needed to buy. The parents were asked to buy a separate looseleaf binder for every single class our kids were taking and, for some classes, they asked for a looseleaf AND a spiral notebook. When I was in school, each kid had ONE looseleaf and we separated classes with dividers. Having SIX or seven loose leafs adds to backpack weight and costs a lot of money. My kids supply bills were often close to $100 apiece. The teachers have bought into this idea that all of these supplies are necessary and they are not. I'm not surprised that Staples is offering "rewards programs." Their advertising and marketing efforts have convinced the teachers that you must have a package of 12 red correcting pens, per child.
