The Board of Directors of Nonprofit Westchester has named Joanna Straub as its first Executive Director. Nonprofit Westchester was launched in May 2012 for the purpose of strengthening the capacity, impact and visibility of the nonprofit sector in Westchester County for a more caring and just community.
Straub brings more than ten years of experience in the nonprofit sector. Her career has focused on the transformation and growth of nonprofit organizations through mission-centric strategic planning, engagement of volunteers, and the development of partnerships with government, business, and other nonprofits.
Prior to joining Nonprofit Westchester, Straub served as a marketing consultant to nonprofits. She also served as the Executive Director of The Volunteer Center of United Way, where she worked with over 500 nonprofits in Westchester and Putnam to yield an increase in the number of volunteers engaged in service from 2,000 to over 18,000. She was instrumental in leading the agency to receive the inaugural Governor’s R.O.S.E (Recognition of Service Excellence) Award, recognizing it as a model volunteer center for the rest of New York State. Straub has a Master’s in Public Administration degree from New York University’s Wagner School of Public Service.
Board President Susan Wayne, CEO of Family Services of Westchester, said “While the board has laid the groundwork, we are delighted that Joanna Straub will be helping us to take Nonprofit Westchester to the next level as we build membership and influence.”
The nonprofit sector is comprised of over 5,000 organizations in Westchester who collectively employ nearly 100,000 people. Despite being an economic powerhouse and a prime contributor to the quality of life in Westchester, their contributions are undervalued by the general public and key stakeholders alike. Nonprofit Westchester advocates on behalf of nonprofits and works to improve public awareness and build the capacity of nonprofits in our community. Learn more at www.npwestchester.org.
