Meet and Mingle with Westchester Magazine’s Second Annual Design Award Winners for 2013

Here’s your chance to mingle with the most distinguished architects, interior designers, landscape designers, and building professionals in the Hudson Valley region…

The editors of Westchester Home Magazine cordially invite you to attend the Second Annual Design Awards on Thursday, February 28, 2013, to be held at the Hudson Harbor Clubhouse in Tarrytown, NY, from 6:00PM to 8:00PM. The award winners will be honored amidst elegant cocktails and tasty hors d’oeuvres. Tickets are $25 per person.

“We were delighted to receive 127 submissions from 40 area designers and architects, a definite uptick from our inaugural year, said Nancy L. Claus, executive editor of Westchester Home Magazine. “We had some very tough decisions to make from all the really impressive work we received, but the best always have a way of standing out.”

Once again, faculty and staff from the prestigious New York School of Interior Design in Manhattan assisted in judging the entries. Summing up the sentiments from the panel of judges, John Buscarello, interior designer, NYSID instructor, said: “Overall, the winners exhibited a wonderful sense of materials.

A big part of the problem is that the teachers' expectations about what supplies are necessary haveRead More become so extreme. When my kids were in school in Tarrytown, we would get a list at the beginning of every school year of the supplies we needed to buy. The parents were asked to buy a separate looseleaf binder for every single class our kids were taking and, for some classes, they asked for a looseleaf AND a spiral notebook. When I was in school, each kid had ONE looseleaf and we separated classes with dividers. Having SIX or seven loose leafs adds to backpack weight and costs a lot of money. My kids supply bills were often close to $100 apiece. The teachers have bought into this idea that all of these supplies are necessary and they are not. I'm not surprised that Staples is offering "rewards programs." Their advertising and marketing efforts have convinced the teachers that you must have a package of 12 red correcting pens, per child.
