Westchester Library System Names Elena Falcone Director, Office of Community Connections

The Westchester Library System (WLS) recently announced the appointment of Cortlandt Manor resident Elena Falcone as Director, Office of Community Connections. WLS, a state-chartered cooperative library agency, serves Westchester County’s 38 public libraries.

Elena Falcone received her Bachelor of Arts at New York University and her Master of Library and Information Science at Queens College of the City of New York. She has over 20 years experience as a leader of library services in for-profit and not-for-profit environments, most recently as Senior Director of Strategic Planning and Information Services for Consumer Reports in Yonkers, NY.

“Elena’s experience and passion for the ability of libraries to promote learning in individuals of all ages and backgrounds is a welcome asset to WLS” said Terry L. Kirchner, WLS’s Executive Director.

A Cortlandt Manor resident for 25 years, Elena has been engaged in community and volunteer services across Westchester, including training as a hospital chaplain at Saint John’s Riverside Hospital in Yonkers, singing tenor in the Yorktown-based Taghkanic Chorale, serving as a senior practice leader at the Empty Hand Zen Center in New Rochelle, and acting as elections inspector “where ever they send me.”

“My work experience encompasses public service, research, strategy, and innovation.  I am thrilled to be able to step into a role that leverages all of these skills with a clear focus on making library-based resources and programs available to under- and un-served county populations.

I know the difference connecting to community resources can make.  My entire family has benefited from the resources of Westchester County.  My children have tapped BOCES vocational and continuing education programs, my in-laws benefited from senior programs, and we are all continually nourished by the parks, museums, and myriad special places that the county offers.  Particularly through use of public library services, we’ve been aware of what’s available and have tapped key county resources to solve problems, get ideas, and have fun.  These possibilities belong to all of us.”
