Oktoberfest/Adventure Run Coming this Saturday

Details from Sleepy Hollow's big launch of our season's celebrations this Saturday come from Susan MacFarlane:

"Heidi's bakery will be selling fresh pretzels and other German delicacies.  The German School of New York will be selling bavarian cakes and coffee.  J.P. Doyle's will have authentic beer on tap.  And a new catering company opened by Renee Chillemi, Red Poodle Catering, will be selling German butcher-sourced brats and other hot food.  Bella's Boutique will sell various Sleepy Hollow souvenirs and other fun items.   And our band, John Stevens' Doubleshot, will be playing polka and other German tunes all afternoon.  This event is rain or shine as we can always move into the bathhouse pavilion.

Our first Sleepy Hollow Adventure Race Experience is shaping up to be a really cool event.  The race was suggested by Sleepy resident Becky Zifchock, who participates in an adventure race on Staten Island every year, and she and James West have taken the laboring oar in getting it organized.  We have volunteers from the high school who will help run the event.  We've tried to time it so that the 11 a.m. Adventure Race will end about when the Oktoberfest is starting to kick off, so after the race people can enjoy some refreshments.

There is a bit of a movement underfoot to come to Oktoberfest dressed in German outfits.  Oktoberfest Committee member Johannes Eltz is spearheading that campaign.  Though not everyone has liederhosen in their closets like Johannes, maybe they can get creative with what they do have."

This all sounds great to me, especially the liederhosen! Let's do it! Oktoberfest goes from 1 to 5 p.m. in Kingsland Point Park, Saturday Sept. 28 with the adventure run starting at 11 a.m. that day. See you there! (Flyers attached)
