A Lego Version of Sunnyside or Lyndhurst?

Tarrytown's Sunnyside and Lyndhurst are among other NYC area attractions vying for your vote to be built in Legos.

Legoland Discovery Center Westchester wants help deciding which metropolitan landmarks they will build, brick by plastic brick, in the Miniland attraction to open in March 2013 at Ridge Hill in Yonkers.

Among the contenders are two Tarrytown attractions (and neighbors): Lyndhurst and Washington Irving’s Sunnyside. They are the only Westchester sites among a very NYC-centric list.

Lest our local legends be overshadowed by perhaps more famous landmarks such as the Statue of Liberty and Yankee Stadium, here’s your chance to vote local:

Voting is open now on the Legoland Discovery Center Facebook page (www.facebook.com/LDCWestchester) where you can pick your favorite from this list:

Statue of Liberty

Yankee Stadium

Washington Irving’s Sunnyside

George Washington Bridge

Rockefeller Plaza

Grand Central Terminal

Lyndhurst

Chrysler Building

Empire State Building

Citi Field

Voting will be open until Tuesday, Dec. 18, with the winning location announced on Wednesday, Dec. 19.

Lyndhurst and Sunnyside are fine but Westchester County could be better represented at "Legoland Discovery Center Westchester" if more Westchester places are included such as Kykuit at the Rockefeller Estate and the Castle on the Hudson in Tarrytown. The awesome Lego work of ex-New Yorker Arthur Guglick should also be considered for the coming Yonkers attraction. See, for example, "World Famous Buildings Assembled From Lego Bricks Will be on Display at Lyndhurst Next Weekend," which appeared on Tarrytown-SleepyHollowPatch, April 12, 2011.

Thanks Jerry, here's the link to that Lyndhurst Lego story for others to see: http://patch.com/A-g6MY. I'll ask the Legoland folks if other buildings of Westchester are already in the show and this vote is just for NEW additions. (There must be more?!)

I'm puzzled. The promotional information for "Legoland Discovery Center Westchester" indicates that only one of the ten candidates will be constructed. Since only two of the ten choices (Lyndhurst and Suynnyside) are located in Westchester, the center may well have no Westchester Lego-replica representation. So is it the center's sole intention to sell and publicize Lego products and not to honor any of Westchester's many wonderful architectural achievements?
