Salvation Army Gives Out 300 Turkeys

There was one Food Bank-donated turkey and vegetable bag for each of the 300 folks waiting in line on Friday at the Tarrytown Salvation Army.

Two side-by-side operations on Wildey Street have been showcasing an abundance of generosity during Hurricane Sandy, but this is all just what the Tarrytown Salvation Army and Community Opportunity Center always do.

Reports Janet Herrera of the Tarrytown Corps, "We gave out over 300 turkeys!" She described a peaceful crowd during the application process and during distribution. She also said her organization collaborated with the COC to make sure there was no one applying at both facilities for turkeys.

Both facilities' turkey donations came by way of the Food Bank. The COC is still eagerly waiting on their delivery and expects to supply about 65 families, said director Kristin Lanza.
