Dozens of Santas come into a bar... Sounds like the beginning of a joke, but this is serious, people. SantaCon is coming to town!
Five local folks have taken the initiative to launch Tarrytown/Sleepy Hollow’s first ever SantaCon event, a festive bar crawl of sorts – though sticklers say you’re not allowed to call it a bar crawl – that is sweeping the nation, no, scratch that, the world. The idea: everyone dresses up as Santa, drinks, and has a jolly good time.
It all goes down this Friday, December 16, from 7 p.m. to 4 a.m. at various local bars. The start location will be announced the night prior, Dec. 15, on the Facebook page created just for the occasion. Coordinators just ask participants to bring either a $10 suggested donation or an unwrapped toy to be donated to Blythedale's Toy Drive.
“And so the tradition begins," says the Facebook invite. "Come dressed in your best Santa suit in celebration of the holidays. It's a festive bar crawl where everyone gets to be Santa (or at least some version of Santa). So get your Santa, elf or reindeer on and spread some cheer and goodwill."
Of the 382 invited so far, there are 54 going and 35 maybes, not too shabby but there are never too many Santas. "The more the merrier!” says the FB page.
One of the event’s coordinators, Jeannette Ho (Ho Ho), offers these SantaCon tips and a link, complete with $10 coupon, to buy your costume:
* Wear comfy shoes - unfortunately, there is no sleigh big enough to transport all of us...we'll put it in the works for next year though!
* For all of you "Going" or "Maybe, " we'll message out some Christmas lyrics to you this week so we can all have a sing-a-long after our 10th shot...ohhh, you know you can't wait!
* Layer-up! Other than stuffing your shirt with a pillow, make sure you're prepared to weather the cold. We'll be in and out, and in and out so dress accordingly, especially if you're going the "Sexy Santa" route. ;)
* Round 'em up + invite your friends. Some form of a costume IS required but for those of you last minute non-planners who decide to join us en route, we will have some extra Santa gear and garb on hand - a $10 donation will have you "covered" for the night in things that look like they should be on a Christmas tree.
