Take Your Pick: Clean Up Every Corner of the Villages at These Upcoming Events

Volunteer clean up days abound in Tarrytown and Sleepy Hollow surrounding Earth Day; whichever you choose, it's all good.

Here's a big round-up of the many events going on in the Villages starting this Saturday and going through May. Why stop doing good when Earth Day is over?

Sat, April 21; 10 a.m. to noon

Volunteers will take to the streets to pick up garbage that has been accumulating in the villages over the winter.

All those who wish to participate should gather at 9:45 a.m. at , rain or shine. Bring gloves, bright clothing, and water if it is hot out. There will be some refreshments prior to the start of the cleanup. Volunteers will be designated specific routes to clean during the event, and people can request to clean around their own neighborhoods if they so desire.

This event is sponsored by the Villages' Environmental Action Committees. Those with questions about the cleanup can contact David Bedell or Sean Roach at: sleepyholloweac@yahoo.com; or Carole Griffiths at: Carole.Griffiths@liu.edu

Sat, April 21; 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Part of the Village-wide clean up is focusing on the Tarrytown Lakes. Event coordinators praised the big turnout last year from neighboring EF students and others, and anticipate three times more bodies this time.

Volunteers should meet at the Skate Shack parking lot at 10 a.m. on Neperan Road and Sunnyside Avenue. You will be collecting discarded trash so please bring gardening gloves if you have them. And remember to check for deer ticks after any outdoor activity. A good message to all the volunteers, wherever you go!

Sun, April 22; 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.

The Friends of Horan's Landing ask that you please bring any gardening tools you have to assist in this riverfront clean up. A great opportunity to meet your neighbors, make new friends, have fun and clean up this small but beautiful area. Meet at at 11 a.m.
