Walking tour of the Sleepy Hollow Cemetery

Dig deeper into the history of Sleepy Hollow Cemetery and its inhabitants. On these two-hour walks you’ll hear of Washington Irving, author of “The Legend of Sleepy Hollow,” Revolutionary War veterans, wealthy industrialists, and others. We will also introduce you to some of the funereal iconography, architecture and sculpture on our grounds, and we almost always step into the cemetery’s 112-year-old underground receiving vault, featured in the cult horror film House of Dark Shadows.

Tours step off from the south gate of the Sleepy Hollow Cemetery (at the Old Dutch Church). Group rates are available, please call or email for reservations. Tickets may be purchased on-line in advance (suggested) or at the door from Sleepy Hollow gifts (under the tent at the south gate). This tour can be scheduled in tandem with the 1:00 tour of the Old Dutch Church and Burial Grounds, tickets available from Sleepy Hollow Gifts.

Skill level: Some people may find the pace of our two-hour walking tours challenging. We cover more than a mile on foot and encounter stairs, unpaved roads, and hills. Please consider your own abilities when signing up for a tour and dress for the weather, your tour will be entirely outdoors, rain or shine.
