How Many Pennies Does it Take to Build an Eight-Foot Empire State Replica?

It weighs about 750 pounds, so you can visit the Greenburgh Public Library and see, and do the math, yourself.

Though the new World Trade Center seems to have demoted the Empire State Building to second skyscraper tallest in the city, a version of the building made of coins stands tall in Elmsford.

Ricardo Zamudio, a Hartsdale resident, has created an eight-foot replica of the Empire State Building made only out of pennies.

The title is, appropriately, "Just a Penny" and you can go admire it at the Greenburgh Public Library during regular hours.

According to Nancy McCrory, PR person for the Elmsford branch, "It is a fascinating sculpture with lights and a King Kong at the top. He began collecting pennies approximately 10 years ago. After the events of 9/11, Ricardo wanted to create something to remind himself and others about the great city of New York."

The Greenburgh Public Library is located at 300 Tarrytown Road, Elmsford. (914) 721-8216
