First came the sketches and the planning. The vision Jeff White had for this wall was tugboats, and all they represent: work, coooperation, struggle, strength.
You can't live along the Hudson and not get obsessed with tugboats. My family (Jeff is my husband) watch the sweet and surly little boats pass so often up and down the Hudson, we started photographing them as they go. My daughter screams "tugboat" and Jeff and or I go running to the front porch, or down the street to the GM lot or Horan's Landing, to snap a picture. Jeff collected the images and started sketching the boats for a mural for the newly renovated 's blank brick face.
At first the plan was one big tugboat, but C-Town (and the Village of course) had something shorter in mind. So the mural morphed into many small tugboats in a project that came to be known as 17 Tugs -- there are actually 14 however, as three will be groups of words tugboats conjure up:
Calm - Steady - Patience - Flow - Pull - Break the Ice - Engage - Connect - Trust
All of which will come into practice during this project.
