Citizen Petition: ‘Tell the Planning Board KFC Doesn’t Work for Tarrytown’

Since January there’s been talk of the possibility of a KFC drive-thru moving into the corner dollar store of the Tarrytown Centre complex.

Citizen objection, or at least heated conversation, now seems to be escalating as there’s a public hearing on the Wildey’s Group proposal before the Tarrytown planning board Monday night.

Resident Greg Galloway has created a petition against these plans, introducing his efforts on the 10591 Facebook page as such:

“This drive-thru would deposit traffic into the middle of an already dangerous intersection (Wildey, Central, & Valley) and rearrange the plaza in a manner detrimental to traffic, pedestrians, tenants, and the neighborhood. Please ask the Planning Board to hold to the existing code and not extend variances or change of use requests for this plan.”

The petition, here, reads as follows:

Interested in local real estate?Subscribe to Patch's new newsletter to be the first to know about open houses, new listings and more.

We, the undersigned, oppose the conversion of 124 Wildey Street (currently Dollar Dream) to a Kentucky Fried Chicken and all proposed alteration to the existing road layout and traffic pattern that this would require both inside and outside the plaza. It is our opinion that this proposal does not meet Village of Tarrytown code regarding a variety of concerns including environmental, functional, aesthetic and socioeconomic impact. We urge the Planning Board to scrutinize, among other things, pedestrian rights-of-way, ADA compliance, proposed idle-heavy drive-thru lane's proximity to Reverend Sykes Park, lack of capacity to accommodate the refuse removal needs of current tenants, disruption of access to the adjacent Westchester Bee-Line bus stop, and exacerbation of traffic flow disorder at the intersection of Wildey Street, Central Avenue, and Valley Street.

What do you think? Will you be signing this petition or attending the public hearing? You can read more about the proposed plan in our former article here.
