Citizens: CVS Complex Owner Gives Parkers the Boot

The parking problem for downtown Tarrytown got an uptick in the usual amount of debate on Facebook this week.

On the heels of the news that CVS complex owner Edward Coco has finally rented his huge bi-level vacant space to the Mrs. Green's grocery chain came the citizen warning that the management company is tougher than ever on unauthorized, and sometimes authorized, parking in the back lot.

According to Jenifer Ross of nearby business W@tercooler, Coco Management out of Tuckahoe is really stamping down on any real or perceived abuses of that lot. She warned residents and business patrons alike to be careful.

“FYI... the owner of the parking lot behind CVS is cracking down on folks who park there but are not shopping at the stores associated with the lot. They are booting and towing - so please be careful!” she wrote on the 10591 Facebook group page.

This recent blotter item from Tarrytown police comes as proof:

A Verizon worker reported to Tarrytown police that his work vehicle had been towed while he was legally parked for patronage in the CVS store. Police advised of his options when he called on August 6 at 1:28 p.m. and he was advised to follow up civilly with the property management company.

On the 10591 group page, talk of parking problems in the CVS lot is stirring along with a debate of who should be able to use this lot or not, how anyone knows who's shopping there or not, and what should be done about it.

Bjorn Olsson, executive director of the Tarrytown Music Hall, whose patrons are often at a loss for where to park around the village, dreams of a multi-tiered lot there, which Ross said she knows from her experience in the administration to be cost-prohibitive.

“At least he put up a sign specifically banning Music Hall patrons,” Olsson said.

Just “wait until Mrs. Green's opens,” another commenter warned, anticipating an even greater challenge to come.
