Does Tarrytown Centre Risk Becoming a 'Food Court at the Mall'?

Two chains have now expressed interest in opening storefront fast food in the Walgreens plaza: Subway and KFC. What do you think?

Thanks largely to the efforts of the Galloways’ petition against a drive-thru KFC at Walgreens plaza, the drive-thru is now off the table.

However, there may be two new fast food chains coming now instead of one.

Subway has apparently expressed interest in one of the two open spaces on the Wildey Street side of the complex, the former cleaners and the dollar store.

At the Sept. 23 Tarrytown Planning Board meeting, Joanne Landau and her husband Fred Schwab, one of three owners of the shopping center, said they now had two potential clients for the two empty spaces.

KFC was still interested with, potentially, now Subway.

To this board member Ronald Tedesco emphasized the necessity of “fitting in with the Village character” as far as signage and facades, limitations which Landau said her clients were aware of and willing to work with.

While the Galloways wracked up some 67 names on their SAY NO TO KFC efforts, Landau presented 750 names in support of “easier more affordable restaurants in the village.”

Now that the drive-thru is off the application, KFC could live in either storefront, they said.

Member Paul Birgy said heard opposition from citizens to any more food chains and stores in Tarrytown, a village that prides itself on so many mom and pops.

Similiarily, Village Engineer Michael McGarvey said these two, along with McDonald’s and Dunkin’ Donuts, would “turn it into a food court in a mall.”

What do you think about two more chain fast food restaurants coming to Tarrytown?
