Sleepy Hollow Farmers' Market at Phelps

In what may be the only move of its kind by any hospital in the region, Phelps Memorial Hospital Center will launch a farmers market on June 21. Called the "Sleepy Hollow Farmers Market at Phelps," the new source for local produce, farm products and healthful prepared foods will serve residents the community as well as hospital staff, visitors and patients.

Many may ask why a hospital has taken the unusual step of sponsoring a farmers market. "We are all about promoting good health," says Phelps enior Vice President Daniel Blum, "and good health starts with good food. The market fits right in with our Vitality Initiative , which focuses on
encouraging wellness in our community."

Blum makes a point of inviting local residents to shop at the farmers market. "The market is definitely open to everyone in the area," Blum said. "We hope to see lots of hospital staff and visitors buying lunch and taking delicious foods home with them as well," he says.

The new market is being organized by Pascale Le Draoulec of Hastings, a food writer and author who runs farmers markets in Chappaqua, Hastings and Irvington.

Shoppers will find a wide range of farm fresh fruits and vegetables, farm products such as cheeses, eggs, and meats, as well as prepared foods such as baked goods, sandwiches and salads.
