Peekskill's First Holiday Pub Crawl a Jolly Success

The streets were packed with happy Santas, elves and Santettes Saturday night in Peekskill.

Hundreds of merry revelers made their way through the streets of downtown Peekskill during Saturday night's Peekskill Makes Me Merry pub and grub crawl, produced by the Business improvement District.

All of the participating businesses were packed with red, white and good cheer. Despite the crowds, staff at the local bars and restaurants were prepared for the masses and served up drinks quickly enough to keep spirits high.

At Mayor Mary Foster and Councilwoman Marybeth McGowan performed some holiday karaoke. At waiters maneuvered through crowds serving up guacamole, mixed table-side, and other Mexican treats. A crowd of Santas of all ages were also found inside The and the

Peekskill's trolley Stella provided transportation between stops on the crawl. Although the establishments were only one or two blocks from eachother, enthusiastic partiers were happy to take a ride on the trolley, operated by Henry Masson.

To all the Patch readers I met while crawlin' through Peekskill, it was a pleasure to get to know you!

I would like to know more about the downtown Peekskill residents concerned for the on-going boisturous, rowdy, behavoir that goes on as late as 3am every Friday & Saturday nights. I was told there was something said recently in the Patch about a group of residents who are protesting this, and want to be heard. This restaurant weekend was hopefully only a once a year event. If it progresses into an on-going weekly or monthly bar-crawlers excuse to get drunk, it surely will be protested. "Enough is Enough" and we residents in the downtown area have rights too.

Hi Luci, The City Council has said they receive complaints about that and held a meeting with restaurant owners last week to go over the noise ordinance and discuss the issue. If you'd like to talk to me about the issue of noise in downtown Peekskill further please email me at elizabeth.giegerich@patch.com.

I don't advocate drunks running around. But I never understand people who choose to live in busy commercial and urban areas and then get upset with noise, activity etc. The funniest was when all those people moved into condos by the train tracks and then started complaining about the train horns.

When I moved here not so long ago, I didn't expect drunks running around town yelling and screaming til 3 AM in the morning. I'm really looking forward to the freezing cold wintry nights to keep them off the streets so I can stop taking sleeping pills to get myself into dreamland.

I've had good luck with air filters creating white noise - the HEPA kind - they don't whine like some others. Its funny but I once read a letter from a woman who lived near the riverfront. She was complaining about drunks fighting down at the riverfront. She said Peekskill would never amount to anything with such people. The letter was from the 1860s lol
