Shopping Super-Local at Phelps Farmers Market

With a sizable showing of vendors from our immediate region represented, the Phelps Farmers Market is perhaps more local than most. Vendors often must drive for hours to get to their chosen markets while here they might take a few mile trip up Route 9.

The locavore movement is not “fringe” anymore – it’s even on the (admittedly long) list of bills the House and Senate didn’t get to vote on before summer break. Many actually think the Farm Bill promoting local (defined as within 400 miles) agriculture is sure to eventually pass with support from both ends of the political spectrum. You can read more on this in a recent NPR bit here.

Meanwhile, at this great market in Sleepy Hollow every Thursday at the entrance to Rockwood Hall from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., you can chat with your neighbors and your neighbor-vendors:
