A Film Series, Based on Events From Jewish and Israeli History, Bows in at Woodlands Community Temple

"Paragraph 715," the first movie of a three-film series based on actual events in Jewish and Israeli history, bows in at the Woodlands Community Temple on October 9, 2013. This film provides a rare look at the German Reich's persecution of homosexuals through moving testimonies of gay and lesbian survivors.

The second film in the series, "Room 514," draws on an occurrence that took place in an Israeli military interrogation room. A young female military police inspector questions an Israeli company commander, higher than her in rank. He is accused of using excessive force against an Arab. She risks repercussions that could damage her chances of pursuing a law career once she returns to civilian life. Show date: October 16, 2013.

"No Place on Earth," the last film in the series, is a reenactment of a true story about 38 cave-dwelling Ukrainian Jews, ages 2 to 76 at the time, who were hunted unsuccessfully by the Nazis for 18 months as World War II drew to a close. It is scheduled for showing on October 23, 2013.

Lois Green, the director of programming at JCC on the Hudson, screened more than 100 films to narrow the field for the series down to three.

A discussion with audience participation follows watching of each film.

Pre-registration is required. The admission cost is $10 per film or $25 to see all three films. Call Lois Green at 914-366-7898.

The series is conducted annually by the Rivertowns Jewish Consortium, a collaboration of the JCC on the Hudson and six temples as part of their Adult Learning Program "Mayim."
