Croton's Justin Wagner Announces Another Run for State Senate

Before all the votes have even been counted for election season 2013, Justin Wagner has just announced his run for District 40 State Senate seat again for 2014.

Wagner, a Croton-on-Hudson resident, commercial litigation lawyer, and family man, lost in a close battle against incumbent Sen. Greg Ball (R, C, I - Patterson) in the newly drawn zone in 2012.

In the aftermath of Hurricane Sandy, he made an effort to campaign in areas new to District 40 and decidedly more Democratic-leaning such as Sleepy Hollow, where he went around the village with Mayor Ken Wray distributing water to residents.

Today, Wagner said he’ll rise above “petty politics” and “extremism.” Instead he promises "commonsense pragmatism."

“If my campaign has a theme, it’s reform,” Wagner said. “To preserve our quality of life and keep our Hudson Valley communities affordable, we need some help from Albany. Governor Cuomo has made tremendous headway, but we could do so much more with a pragmatic State Senate – not one that’s paralyzed by petty politics.  That’s going to require leadership that’s ready to put families, common sense, and our communities ahead of political extremism or opportunism.”

He lists on his team three co-chairs of his steering committee:

  • Lynne Eckardt, Town of Southeast Councilwoman,
  • John McBride, Town of Cortlandt Democratic Chair,
  • and John Nonna, Former Mayor of Pleasantville and Westchester County Legislator.

And Wagner has a new website, www.wagner4ny.com.

“For decades, this Senate seat has been held by professional politicians, but what our region needs now is a State Senator who shares the values of the Hudson Valley and will work with the Governor to stand up for those values," Wagner said. "I will fight for tougher ethics and campaign reforms in Albany and expanded economic opportunities for the Hudson Valley. My campaign will be rooted in the commonsense pragmatism that I learned growing up in the Hudson Valley and that my wife and I are raising our daughter with.”

New York’s 40th Senate District includes parts of Westchester, Putnam, and Dutchess counties.
