Reading and Interactive Discussion with Annabel Monaghan

Young adult (YA) novelist and Writing Institute alumnae Annabel Monaghan will read excerpts from her most recent novel, Double Digit, published by Houghton Mifflin Harcourt. This sequel to her first YA book, A Girl Named Digit, chronicles the continuing adventures of math genius and computer geek Farrah Higgins, AKA Digit, who is now 18 and attending MIT. In this saga, Digit’s exceptional code-cracking ability inadvertently lands her in serious trouble with the Department of Defense. Simultaneously, she continues to be pursued by eco-terrorist Jonas Furnis who follows her from LA to Cambridge to capture her.

After the reading, Ms. Monaghan will be interviewed about the process of getting her books published and brokering a deal with the Disney Channel to create a movie based on her first YA novel. Writing Institute instructor Jimin Han, who along with Patricia Dunn co-taught the “Novel Writing” course that Monaghan took while writing A Girl Named Digit, will facilitate the Q&A.

In conjunction with novel writing, Ms. Monaghan authors a bi-weekly column for The Rye Record, is a regular contributor to The Week, and co-authored a non-fiction book entitled Click! The Girls Guide to Knowing What You Want and Making it Happen (Simon and Shuster 2007). She earned her MBA from the University of Pennsylvania and BA from Duke University.
