Sheep-to-Shawl

Celebrate spring! From fiber to fashion, this classic spring festival
celebrates all things wooly sheep! Visitors are invited to explore each
step in the process of turning wool into cloth using 18th-century
techniques. Hands-on activities include dyeing wool and weaving.
New
this year in the site’s Manor House is Wearable Wealth: The Value of
Cloth and Clothing in the 18th Century. Activities and hands-on displays
will help visitors understand just how precious fabric goods were for
colonial Americans. In fact, colonists were the ultimate recyclers!
Textiles of all kinds were expensive treasures used, re-used and
re-purposed again.
Outside on the grounds, Scottish border collies
display their skills at sheep- and duck-herding. Also new this year,
kids can try on reproduction 18th-century clothing for a great photo op!
Plus, enjoy a fashion show complete with critiques from a tough judge,
HHV’s own expert costume designer.
Hungry visitors have plenty of
fresh options to choose from, thanks to food trucks from Rockland Roots
(farm-to-table fare) and Rachel's Gourmet (comfort food with a twist).
And for those who prefer sweet treats? The Blue Pig of Croton dishes up
locally sourced homemade ice cream.
Admission: $14; $12 for seniors; $8 for children 3-17. Free for members and children under 3.
